I had a conversation with someone recently who thought Obama was letting the 9/11 mastermind go - because Obama is Muslim! Cue much teeth-gnashing and growling about impeachment, etc., etc.
When I pointed out that the article he refers to is actually about where the trial is going to be held and not OMG Obama is letting him go OMG OMG Obama sux there followed a lot of teeth-gnashing about deceptive media dumb reporters don't write headlines that tell the real story grr arg. And then for good measure, he provided commentary on how abusive Muslims are because the Koran allows them to debase wimmenfolk.
At which point I told him the story of my college roommate who was a pretty, earring wearing, makeup using, conservatively-dressing girl who started to date a Pentecostal preacher who then proceeded to ban her from makeup, jewelry, and anything other than dresses with high necklines, and then we were suspecting that she was heading for actual spousal abuse just based on the guy's attitude toward her when he came to visit at the apartment.
News flash, dude. Being Muslim isn't a guarantee of being fundamentalist Muslim. Being racist, misogynist, or just generally putting people into tiny little boxes based on your teeny tiny little fund of knowledge of their religion is total automatic fail. And guess who fails at ASSumptions? Obama chose to be baptised as an adult in the Trinity United Church of Christ.
Does that sound Muslim? HA.
FAIL. Total, epic FAIL.
Not even getting to the total suicidal ridiculousness it would be for a president in office to even contemplate letting That Terrorist go without a trial. No adult who can string words into sentences would be that stupid, regardless of his religion or the rabid adherence to thereof. Not to mention the plethora of people surrounding the president who would stand up and go, "uhhh, no, Mr. President, we can't do that" before whacking him with a FAIL bat.
